As I walk down the stairs, I nod to Chris and he joins me as we walk to the guest entrance.

“I got your back no matter what, brother,” he states as he hits his knuckles against mine.

“I appreciate it,” I reply.

My phone in my pocket vibrates and I stop to look at it before walking out. That fucker can wait all fucking day for me for all I care.

Mom: I need u. cops are hree tryin t arrest me fo buyig fom a cop. I did nt by for no cop.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” I say when I try to read her fucked up message. She’s high as a fucking kite. I can hardly read her damn message.

“What’s up?” Chris asks.

“Nothing. Just my fucking tweeker mother,” I say as I start walking again.

Chris doesn’t reply to my comment. He knows how I feel about it. He’s told me to cut her out a long fucking time ago. He just doesn’t understand though. I’ve been dealing with this for fifteen years; not to mention I don’t want it falling back on us.

We walk into the lobby and Nathan is leaned up against the wall with his arms crossed.

I mask my emotions and approach him.

“You looking for me?” I cut to the chase.

“Stanton?” he asks.

“That’s me.”

My gut tells me right away to never trust this guy. He looks like a fucking snake.

“I’ve come to inform you of your debt then,” he tells me, like I owe this fuck money.

“Nathan, is it?” I lift my eyebrow. “I’m pretty sure I don’t owe anyone anything.” I pretend to think for a moment. “Nope, I don’t.”

This time Nathan smirks. “Ahh. Maybe you don’t, but your blood does.”

That comment has me internally stiffing. “What do you mean?” I ask, already getting pissed off.

“Oh, I think you know,” he pushes off the wall with his shoulder and stands tall, trying and failing, to intimidate me.

“That’s the thing, bud. I don’t, so please enlighten me, yeah?”

“Your momma owes me money and before I just slit her throat, I thought I’d go to next of kin. But if we are being honest with each other, after I slit her throat, I’ll be coming back to see you anyway. I just thought I’d give her baby boy a chance to save her life.” He shrugs. “Unless…” he taps his lips with his finger, “you want to trade?” he asks and my whole body vibrates with fury, knowing where he is going with this.

Chris puts his hand on my chest to warn me to play this right. I can’t show this man any weakness or else he will know how to hit me where it hurts.

“Vice, we can pay him off you know,” Chris states as a reason for his hand on my chest.

“Nah, this isn’t a battle of yours,” I tell him and he looks like he wants to go head to head with me over that, but he won’t in front of a rival member.

“How about you hand over that sweet ass that was on the back of your bike yesterday?” he asks, watching me.
